Was the last full night of uninterrupted sleep that I will get for a long time. Checking into the hospital in 8.5 hours. Getting nervous and I'm not even the one who has to go through labor...
Australian poet Pam Brown wrote that "Sisters annoy, interfere, criticize. Indulge in monumental sulks, in huffs, in snide remarks. Borrow. Break. Monopolize the bathroom. Are always underfoot. But if catastrophe should strike, sisters are there. Defending you against all comers."
I think Ms. Brown must have lived at my house growing up with my sister Angie and me (although I do have to admit that some of our run-ins were a bit more dramatic than illustrated in the quote).
My catastrophe was getting deathly ill and delivering my precious son almost four months too soon. Not even a day after I delivered my son, Angie offered to carry my next child and, after a year or so of contemplation, I took her up on it.
